Some tasty food, plus a nice drink – and then some words to make you think. Or laugh. Maybe even cry.
That’s what is on the menu at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Niagara Falls, where they have found a winning format that combines a wonderful meal with a fascinating live presentation by comics, pro athletes or celebrities.
As a night out, that’s pretty hard to beat.
There’s a full schedule of events planned.
How about this one: On February 19, you can enjoy a four-course meal at Ruth’s Chris starting at 5 p.m. When you’re done your meal, you can enjoy a mix-and-mingle with Toronto Maple Leafs legend Wendel Clark, grab and autograph and photo, and watch the Leafs take on the St. Louis Blues on the big-screen TV.
Wendel is one of the most beloved of all former Leafs, and this is your chance to ask him about that thrilling series back in 1992-93 when his Leafs were pressed to seven games before eliminating the St. Louis Blues (with goalie Curtis Joseph), on their way to facing the LA Kings.
Or this: For three nights, Ruth’s Chris is offering a three-course meal and then entry to nearby Yuk Yuk’s to watch a performance by Darrin Rose, one of the stars of CBC’s Mr. D sitcom. That’s on Feb. 28, and March 1 and 2.
And how about this one, hockey fans? On March 3, Ruth’s Chris presents Tales From The Penalty Box, where former Buffalo Sabres tough guys and fan favourites Matthew Barnaby and Andrew Peters will trade stories (but probably not punches) from their days in the National Hockey League.
A five-course meal comes with that deal. That one should be fun.
Then on March 7, the chef gets to do the talking. Celebrity chef Chuck Hughes will mix and mingle with diners, and share a cocktail reception before the five-course meal – inspired by Hughes – is served.
He is the author of several books and is still the only Canadian chef to beat legendary Bobby Flay in the Food Network’s Iron Chef America show.
You remember The Sopranos? Of course you do. Vincent Pastore, who played Big Pussy on the show (and was so memorably whacked by the pals he ratted on, while at sea) headlines Wiseguys Comedy Nights, on March 28, 29 and 30.
He’ll be joined by comic Goumba Johnny and MC Tara Cannistraci for the night of laughs. First, you will enjoy a five-course meal at Ruth’s Chris, then you’ll head to Yuk Yuk’s for the wiseguys’ comedy show.
Other shows are booked as well, featuring two of the greatest right-wingers ever to plan in the National Hockey League.
First there’s a night with Lanny McDonald on March 27. Starting at 5 p.m., sit down for a sumptuous meal and then watch the Leafs take on the Philadelphia Flyers along with Lanny.
Ask him questions, take a selfie, reminisce about his great career … and then on April 4, do it all over again with Guy Lafleur.
Known as The Flower, the all-time NHL great will join you to watch his Montreal Canadiens take on the Washington Capitals on the big screen, after you’ve enjoyed a great four-course meal.
In Niagara Falls, Ruth’s Chris Steak House is on Fallsview Boulevard, right across the street from the Niagara Fallsview Casino and inside the Four Points by Sheraton hotel.
