He’s one of the giants of America talk-TV, the guy with the bushy moustache and Texas drawl.
He gives pretty good advice, too.
That’s Phil McGraw – television’s Dr. Phil, who is coming to Niagara Falls in November for a special appearance at the Scotiabank Convention Centre on Stanley Avenue.
He will touch on topics like leadership and motivation, and engage the audience in a Q&A session. It’s one of only two stops he is making on a brief Canadian tour, and tickets are selling quickly.
What’s billed as An Evening With Dr. Phil is set for Nov. 13, a Wednesday night, at 8 p.m.
McGraw, 68, first gained national fame as a guest on the Oprah Winfrey talk show 20 years ago for his personable way of delivering straight talk to people who need it.
He has numerous degrees in psychology, and here is a little-known fact about his college years: He played football, a lineback, on the University of Tulsa team that lost by the astounding score of 100-6 against the University of Houston.
His show has been on CBS since 2002 and was recently renewed through 2023.
With his show starting at 8 p.m., that leaves you plenty of time to see the town before you head to the convention centre, which is in the heart of the Fallsview tourist district and within walking distance of several hotels and great restaurants.
Basically at your doorstep is the Niagara Fallsview Casino, the Skylon Tower and a long list of top-notch spots any tourist would be wise to check out.
Plus, the mighty cataracts themselves are a stone’s throw away, and you can get to them by walking down the Murray Street hill or, even easier, riding the Incline Railway down for very reasonable fee.
